Community Service

Airfoil’s values of leadership, accountability, learning, fun and service apply not just to its business and employment practices but also to the way the agency relates to the communities where its staff live, work and play.  Assuming leadership roles in non-profit and professional organizations is a part of the fabric of Airfoil’s culture.  The agency annually commits significant resources to performing pro-bono work for non-profits in Michigan and California to help community groups share their messages with their target audiences.

Airfoil professionals provide gratis PR and marketing services to the Children’s Center marketing strategy team and played a crucial role in the creation of the Michigan Council of Women in Technology. NPower Michigan, which puts technology into the hands of other nonprofits, receives pro bono media relations and PR planning support from Airfoil.  In San Francisco, Street Tech, a non-profit offering low-cost computer training and job placement, has received branding and media relations support from the agency.  Other organizations, such as Focus:HOPE, United Way of Southeastern Michigan, Digital Detroit, Vista Maria High Hope, the Joan C. Banfield Foundation, and the Epilepsy Foundation have also been recipients of Airfoil’s community support.

Professionally, the agency pays employee memberships in the Public Relations Society of America.  Members of its leadership team have served as president and treasurer of PRSA’s Detroit chapter, and agency team members have headed key committees and sections of the organization nationally.

Beyond strategic communications counsel, Airfoil is committed to a number of charitable efforts that help build the spirit and strength of our local communities.  The agency donates to the Children’s Center on behalf of each employee who participates in the annual Airfoil Halloween Parade.  Airfoil has helped collect new toys and books during the Starbucks Holiday Angel Joy Drive, which distributes them to hospitalized children.

Airfoil annually “adopts” a local family during the holiday season, providing them much needed clothes, toys and grocery certificates.

Staff members participate as well in the Center for Occupational and Personalized Education Volley for Youth Tournament to help students experience success in academics and conflict management.  The agency encourages and sponsors employees in the Race for the Cure, Making Strides for Breast Cancer and the Breast Cancer 3-Day fund raising walk.

Airfoil works closely as well with local universities to mentor young professionals in communications, serving as sponsors or speakers at events for Wayne State University, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University.

Inspired through this interconnection with our communities’ institutions, support groups and dedicated volunteers, Airfoil keeps its values foremost in its daily work.
